Drexel Ride - Motion Base
The Drexel Ride is an existing motion simulator housed at Drexel. It is a 2-ton, 3 degree-of-freedom, hydraulic amusement park ride now converted into a gaming and scientific research platform for the use by Drexel University students and faculty. For the 2015-2016 Senior Design Team, the goal was to design a modular deck system that could be used for many applications. Students from the Formula SAE team and the Theme Park Engineering & Design Group were very interested in this project.
Accelerometer data was taken at the rider location per ASTM F24 standards. These accelerations would be used to verify the loading and determine margins for the added structures. Finally, the new deck and interface system was designed and presented.
